Yuhalu – System Requirements and Installation Guide

1. Introduction
Yuhalu is a desktop application for reading and learning Hmong and English text
using text-to-speech and multimedia features.
This guide explains system requirements, required downloads, and how to install
Yuhalu on Windows.
2. System Requirements
- Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 (64-bit)

The installer will automatically check for required components.
3. Required Downloads
Download all files listed below and place them in the same folder, for example: C:\YuhaluDistribution
Required Files
- Yuhalu_Version2.0.zip
- Yuhalu_Libraries.zip
- Yuhalu_Resources.zip
- Yuhalu_Voice.zip
- YuhaluV2.0.Script.ps1
- Start_Yuhalu_Installer.bat
Note: You do not need to extract any ZIP files manually.
The installer will handle all extraction and installation automatically.
IMPORTANT:
Windows requires administrative permission to install Yuhalu.
4. Running the Installer
- Open Windows Explorer
- Navigate to the folder containing the downloaded files.
- Double-click: Start_Yuhalu_Installer.bat to run the installer batch file. Follow instructions on the installation window.
The installer will start automatically.
5. Installer Behavior
5.1 Component Check
The installer checks for Java Runtime and 7-Zip before installation.
If required components are missing, the installer will display clear instructions and provide copyable download links on the status log below.
5.2 Installation Directory
The default installation directory is: C:\Yuhalu
If you later need to run Yuhalu from a different drive, you may copy the entire
Yuhalu folder to another location.
5.3 Existing Installation Detection
If an existing Yuhalu installation is found, the installer reads the
Yuhalu.version file to determine whether this is an upgrade, reinstall,
or downgrade.
Existing installations are renamed and preserved. No files are deleted automatically.
6. Completing the Installation
After the installation completes successfully:
- A desktop shortcut for Yuhalu is created automatically.
- The shortcut Yuhalu name will display for info and will appear on your Windows desktop.
- You will be prompted to launch Yuhalu immediately.
You may choose to start Yuhalu right away or close the installer and run it later by double-clicking the desktop shortcut.
7. Troubleshooting
- Ensure Java Runtime (64-bit) is installed.
- Ensure 7-Zip is installed.
- Close any running Yuhalu application before installing.
- Ensure you have permission to write to C:\Yuhalu.
8. Updating Yuhalu
To update Yuhalu in the future, click Help menu, Check Updates, then follow instructions if there are updates.
Previous installations are preserved automatically.
