Edit Table

This is the help file for the Edit Table feature.

You can access this screen by clicking the Edit menu on the table window, or by right-clicking any cell inside the table.

This table describes the function of each radio button and its associated field or options.

Descriptions
Radio Button Function
Copy – Ctrl+C Copy text from selected rows and columns to the clipboard. Rows and columns are compacted together even if they contain skipped cells.
Cut – Ctrl+X Cut text from selected rows and columns to the clipboard, compacting skipped rows and columns.
Delete – Ctrl+Del Delete all selected rows across all columns, even if only one column is selected.
Paste – Ctrl+V Paste clipboard text starting at the highlighted cell.
Note: Text may be clipped if the clipboard contains more columns than the remaining columns to the right of the highlighted cell.
Row – Ctrl+R Insert a new row before the highlighted row.
Convert
Convert text in selected rows and columns using the chosen option:
  • Capitalize each word: Every word is capitalized.
  • Capitalize first word: Only the first word is capitalized.
  • Lower case: Convert all letters to lowercase.
  • Upper case: Convert all letters to uppercase.
Fill
Text:  
Fill selected rows and columns using the text entered in the Text field:
  • Left: Insert the text to the left of each cell.
  • Replace: Replace the entire cell with the text.
    WARNING: If the Text field is empty, all cell contents will be erased.
  • Right: Append the text to the right of each cell.
Sort
Sort the selected rows based on the first selected column, using the chosen order (ascending or descending).

To sort the entire table by clicking on a column header, check the Sort checkbox on the toolbar.
Append Append blank rows to the end of the table using the number specified in Blank rows (50 max).
Insert Insert blank rows before the highlighted row. The number of rows is based on the Blank rows (50 max) value.

Shortcut: Ctrl+R inserts a blank row before the highlighted row.

Procedure

Shortcut keys such as Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+Del, and Ctrl+V can be used at any time as long as rows or columns are selected — they are always active regardless of which radio button is chosen.

  1. Select rows and/or columns using the mouse or keyboard. You may select continuous rows or skip rows by holding the Ctrl key while clicking cells with the left mouse button.
  2. Click the desired radio button and enter any text, number, or option as required.
  3. Click the button to execute the selected operation.
  4. Repeat steps 1–3 as needed for additional operations.
  5. Click the button to exit the Edit Table window.
  6. Click the button to display the selected text in the clipboard screen.
    Note: When two or more columns are selected, columns are separated by a Tab character.
  7. Click the button to show this help file.
